We start our Senior County campaign today as we take on South Yorkshire in our first group game of Section 3. We head to one of our bankers in Newport, with 6 ex home players in the side there looking to provide a platform for the away side to build on at Barnsley Rugby Club. It is the same venue where we travelled in 2006, and only two of that away side are playing today; Callum Wraight, who won 8 and travels there once again, and Pete Farmer, who is the anchorman at home. Selector Mick Jones knows ” South Yorkshire will provide a tough test for us, that’s why we have used one of our banker greens with half the team being former homesters. We also have a strong away side travelling to Barnsley so are hopeful of a positive result ahead of playing Merseyside and Cumbria in our other two group games. The green has been flying this week but there is rain in the forecast so we hope this won’t spoil the green. Jack Hewitt comes in for his debut at home and we hope for a good start for this season.”
There are two more changes in addition to Jack’s debut, Alex Jones and Darren Wellings return from the last game of last year.
