Shropshire Senior Merit Preview & Details

The finals of the 2026 Shropshire Senior Merit takes place tomorrow at Bicton Bowling Club at 11 a.m.

Three time winner Callum Wraight starts favourite but has another tough opener like last season, his Castlefields team mate Ash Wellings, the current BCGBA Champion of Champion. There are 5 other Fields player in the lineup, the most of any club. Twice winner Rich Goddard is in another match that should be a classic, against another former winner in Rich Lawson, while new signing and former finalist Jamie King has Wem USC stalwart Fred Bailey, Andrew Armstrong has Dave Evans of Edgmond, a former County Handicap Quarter Finalist, County Handicap winner Adie Rowe has new Meole signing Jamie Brookes and Adam Jones takes on Martin Gaut, who was only winner last night on Castlefields against Mike Beer! The winner of that game will take on Pete Grimston or Will Tyler, while two family members collide as Stuart Rutter takes on son-in-law Dan Taylor. Two team mates take each other as Phil Jones meets Hayden Lewis, while former County Handicap winner Alan Purcell meets Dan Hand. Will Childs takes on his ex Wrockwardine Wood team mate Nathan Lacey, and former Shropshire County player Julian Cooke has Staffordshire Merit winner Nick Wyer. Chris Dodds has made his Premier League debut this season and has former winner Jack Hewitt, with the winner set to play Mark Shore, a former quarter finalist, or Ben Hinton, former Junior Merit winner. Joe Killen has had an impressive season so far and plays former Premier League Averages winner Martin Williams. Jordon Millman is the only junior to qualify and looks to start off a double bid with the Junior Merit as he plays Mel Jenkins, who has recently started playing back in the county.
