Senior Merit – 5 Days to Go – Player Profiles 1-8

Below are the Player Profiles for numbers 1-8 in the draw.

1. Kiah Roberts
Club: Burway
Qualification: Mark Thomas 13, Dave Redge 5 at Monkmoor

Kiah is a former champion in 2013 and has been in great form in Burway’s Premier League team so far. He has also won the Bayley Open, and been in our County side, both Senior and Junior. A former Junior Merit winner in 2011 and 2012.

2. Spencer Clarke
Club: Sir John Bayley
Qualification: Steve Broome 18 at Madeley Cricket Club

Spencer won this competition in successive years in 2018 and 2019, beating Callum Wraight in both finals. He has been a consistent performer in Bayley’s Premier League team, as well as being a mainstay of the County side.

3. Mark Shore
Club: Hanwood
Qualification: Chris Jones 20 at Bicton

Mark has been a consistent performer in the Premier League for 30 years, starting off at Wrockwardine Wood, then moving to Sir John Bayley, Childs Ercall and Hanwood, where he helped them into the league. He reached the Quarter Finals last season.

4. Josh Bradburn
Club: St Georges
Qualification: Dave Evans 18 at Sinclair

Josh has settled at St Georges after starting at Donnington Wood and then playing at Bowring and Newport in the Premier League. He reached the Semi Finals of the Newport Open last month.

5. Will Tyler
Club: Meole Brace
Qualification: Simon Lane 18 at Monkmoor

Will is now a mainstay of the Meole Brace Premier League team since going there in 2019. He grew up at Unison, and played in the Junior County side 0f 2005 that reached the final.

6. Gary Beff
Club: Chester Road
Qualification: Richard Lockett 8 at Bridgewater No.1

Gary’s recent form has seen him earn a place in the County squad, as well as captaining Chester Road over the last couple of seasons. He played for Woore before moving to the Premier League.

7. Peter Farmer
Club: St Georges
Qualification: Rob Fuller 9 and Dave Lloyd 16 at Trench

Pete has been the best modern day player in this competition, reaching 10 finals, winning 4 of them. He lost in the final last year, and had to beat the player who defeated him that day, Dave Lloyd, to qualify. He is a former player at Newport, although wouldn’t have much green time on this green compared to the other.

8. Ash Wellings
Club: Hanwood
Qualification: Adam Jones 14 at Telepost

Ash has become a regular in the Senior County side after playing in the Junior County. He won the Junior Merit in 2009 at the Crescent, and is now an important player at Hanwood.
