Only two games survived the weather in the 1st round of the KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup. Previous winners Prince of Wales Hotel managed to edge out Sinclair by just 2 chalks at Atcham in a thriller of a match! Captain Tony Hotchkiss said “I forgot my trainers so Dan Wornell went to fetch them pushing us both back to the middle. However, the front four all played well, Nicki Hotchkiss played well along with Neil Lewis, who had a good finish for his win, and with both Chris Elsbury (best winner 7) and Rob Jones both running out from single figures, it meant we had a healthy lead. Dan started well on the middle, I was nip and tuck all game but just dipped out. Neil Jones and Ian Payne dipped out but no important big defeats. Chris Wilson fought well at No.9 for his score which gave Lee Walmsley a chance to win if he won his game. Got to 20 across with Lee left on matt with last bowl and two down. Had to be there, played onto his short bowl and pushed it in a yard to win the game and match. Had to be there!!! With eight first team squad players unavailable we were more than happy with the result.” Best winner for Sinclair was Simon Madeley 12. Wrockwardine Wood defeated Charlton with 9 winners and by 90 led by Steve Faulkner winning 1. The winner for Charlton at Maddocks was John Phillips 19.
The 5 games that were postponed will be played on Wednesday 5th June. The games and venues are below, with the Bridgewater and Old Shrewsbury game having a new venue, and waiting on one venue to confirm.
