KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup 1st Round Preview

There are 5 first round ties in the KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup tonight. Current holders Hadley USC start their defence against Allscott Heath but will only have one or two from those who played in the final last year. Spokesman Rob Burroughs says “we know it would take some effort to defend the title given the team we have now, but we will give it our all still on what promises to be a tricky and running green at Sinclair.” The top two from the Mid Shropshire League meet as Sinclair play Shifnal at Broseley. The Champions Shifnal captain Paul Beer says “Sinclair are a very good and balanced team this season so it will as always be a tight competitive game on a neutral green, we are looking forward to it.” Sinclair skipper Harry Church thinks it “should be a tight game with 2 good sides and I think we are both a few players short so will be interesting to see who adapts to that better to that.” 3rd placed Mid Shropshire side Newport host Greenfields on Archibald Worthington, with the Tanners Division Two side looking to cause a shock. Charlton will also look to cause a shock as they play Trench on Maddocks. Charlton captain Sharon Phillips says “we’re looking forward to the game against Trench tonight, playing on the green at Maddocks. Our team are excited for the challenge and we’re keeping our fingers crossed the weather is kind for us!”

A reminder all players must have played at least one league game to be able to play tonight. No players who have played for the senior county this or last season are eligible for the Shropshire Cup.

Teams must also pay £1 per player to the host club.
