KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup 1st Round Preview

The 1st round of the KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup features 7 ties looking to make the 2nd round. Sinclair and Prince of Wales Hotel will be amongst the favourites to win this given they finished top 3 in their respective leagues last year. They meet each other in the 1st round at Atcham, with Sinclair captain Harry Church “looking forward to what should be a good game against a strong Prince team. It should be interesting as not a lot of us have played Atcham before.” St Georges finished 2nd in the Mid Shropshire League last season and face Mid Shropshire rivals Sir John Bayley on Bowring Old Green. Captain Richard Griggs is “really looking forward to the game against a tough opponent. Both clubs will be looking to progress and we are up for the challenge. Should make for an exciting match!” There is an all Shrewsbury clash at Old Shrewsbury where Tanners Division Two side Meole Brace take on Division One side Battlefield, while Bridgewater, runners up in the Market Drayton, take on Old Shrewsbury at Trench.

There are three Mid Shropshire Division Two versus Division One clashes. Trench are top of Division Two and take on Bowring on St Georges Bottom Green looking to cause an upset, while Charlton, who finished bottom of Division Two last season, would cause a huge upset if they beat last year’s finalists Wrockwardine Wood at Maddocks. Bridgnorth narrowly missed out on promotion last season, and play Allscott Heath who avoided relegation from Division One last season but now play at their new home. Skipper Chris Hayward says “after an early exit from the competition last year following a close game with the eventual winners, Castlefields, we’re looking forward to the game where we hope to perform well but know we will be tested against a good Bridgnorth team.”

All players must have played one league game. All teams should give £10 to the host club.
