KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup 1st Round Preview

The KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup starts tonight with 7 ties in the 1st round, featuring both of last year’s finalists. Castlefields start their defence with a trip to Chester Road to take on Allscott Heath, who got promoted from Division Two of the Mid Shropshire League last season. The team they beat in the final last season, Prince of Wales Hotel, have a tough opener against Horsehay, the Mid Shropshire League Champions, on Sinclair. Spokesman Tony Hotchkiss says it “will be a very tough game against the successful 2022 side of Horsehay. Having lost two decent players ourselves we’ll be hoping to keep the games close and try and sneak the agg.” Sir John Bayley were semi finalists last season, and will aim to go at least one better when playing the Crescent on Adderley. There is a Mid Shropshire derby between Hadley USC and Wrockwardine Wood at the Bowring. Hadley USC skipper Connor Rew says “we are looking forward to the game, with some experienced bowlers coming back to our DIV 1 side this season it should make for a decent match against good opposition.” Sinclair are expected to be challenger for the Mid Shropshire League, and play Bridgewater at Castlefields. Skipper Harry Church says “we have made a few new signings this year so hopefully it will push us to have a good cup run. We know it’s a difficult first game with a strong Bridgwater team and playing on a green I don’t believe any of us have played . play Adderley at Sir John Bayley, while 2019 runners-up St Georges take on Old Shrewsbury from the Tanners League at Wem USC.

A reminder that is 10 a side, and £10 needs to be given from each team to the host club.
