It will be a case of deja vu as Castlefields meet Sir John Bayley in the 2024 KGJ Insurance County Cup Final just like they did in 2024. The holders Sir John Bayley defeated Wem USC by 46 at Bicton. Vice-captain Tom Roden says “the score probably doesn’t reflect how close the match felt as we were only 6 up after 4, and 16 after 8. Wem pushed us all the way, and in the end our back 4 reeled off 4 good wins to make the aggregate appear comfortable. Credit to Bicton BC, the green has been double cut on the day, lots of members turned up to support round the green, and the club, green, and surrounds make it a great cup venue.” Best winner was Scott Harries 4, with Colin Smith and Darren Fitzpatrick best winners 16 for Wem.
Castlefields had a tougher game against St Georges after being behind after eight games off. Skipper Steve Peach says it was “a closer game than the score line suggests, St Georges started very well and were deservedly 4 up off the front and 16 up after 8. But a superb back four from us, Ash Wellings coming back from 11-5 down to win to 12 and Russell Pugh and Adam Jones playing some very good stuff to win their games and Callum Wraight was just Callum, after playing so many games in the daytime he just rocks up straight onto the green and wins. Superb effort from all, overall the game was played in a good competitive nature and a great atmosphere. Commiserations to St Georges and we wish them best for the rest of the season.” Josh Hale was best winner 7 for them, while Clay Flattley was best for the Dragons 6.
