Sir John Bayley beat St Georges by 53 at Trench
The Bayley reached their first final since 2018 with a 53 shot win over St Georges at Trench. It was close until the back four with just 20 in it before the Bayley took the last four games. Vice-captain Tom Roden said “another fantastic tussle with an in-form St Georges who had recently beaten Wrockwardine Wood away and narrowly beaten us the week previous in the SPBL. In the front 4, Michael Wainwright stood out for St Georges, playing well to beat Stuart Rutter 16 and as usual, Alex Jones played immaculately against an unlucky Peter Grimston to win 6 (to be best winner). In the middle 4, Tony Rhodes dominated his game early on to go 16-4 up until Owen Evans strung together a couple of good runs to get back to 12 (to be best winner). Peter Farmer and Scott Simpson shared a high quality game that Scott managed to edge out 17, and after 6 games only 7 shots separated both teams. However, from there onwards the Bayley’s last 6 turned the screw to increase the gap to 53 after 12 with an impressive single figure win for Kane Beaman against Sonya Lucas and a solid 14 win for Chris Worthington against fellow county teammate Martin Gaut. I think those there would agree that the match was played in the right spirit, and we wish St Georges luck for the rest of the season. We now look forward to the challenge of facing Castlefields in a County Cup Final next month. Last but not least I would like to thank Trench BC for their hospitality. The green was in fantastic condition as always, and considering the size of their car park and bar, the club made every effort to accommodate a large crowd. Well done Trench BC.”
