The 2023 KGJ Insurance County Cup Final takes place tonight with the top two teams in the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League taking part at Bridgewater. Leaders Sir John Bayley meet second placed Castlefields for the fourth time this season. They both won their home clashes in the league, and the Bayley came out on top in the Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy by 42 just over the other side of Whitchurch at Chester Road. Castlefields are looking for their first win since 2015 after losing in the 2016 final, while the Bayley last triumphed in 2018.
Castlefields captain Adie Rowe said “it’s 7 years since our last County Cup Final and it’s massive for us. We go into it respecting the opposition but will be bang up for it from the start. All our team are looking forward to it so we’re looking for a good night.”
Sir John Bayley vice-captain Tom Roden said “if I’m correct I believe this is the first time SJB and Castlefields have met in a county cup final and we’re all looking forward to the challenge of facing the county’s most successful club. In recent years, all of our meetings have been highly competitive and we never expect anything less from the Fielders. For the crowds sake, I hope we put on another good show, and may the best team win.”
