KGJ Insurance County Cup 2nd Round Preview

The final of the last two years takes place in the 2nd round this one as record holders Castlefields play 2023 and 2024 winners Sir John Bayley at District. Castlefields won all but this last year, and are desperate to win this for the first time since 2015, while the Bayley are looking for a third in a row! There are five Division One sides looking to follow Sinclair’s upset against Premier League opposition. Sinclair will look to follow up their shock against St Georges with a bigger upset against Wrockwardine Wood on Maddocks. Captain Harry Church says “we are a few short but looking forward to the challenge against a top side.” Fellow Mid Shropshire side Shifnal take on Bylet at St Georges Bottom Green. Skipper Paul Beer says “we are looking forward to the game on the small green at St Georges. Bylet are a seasoned Premier team so we will give them the utmost respect and should be a good game.” Woore reached the Quarter Finals of this last year, and take on a Burway side sitting 4th in the Premier League on Bowring. Captain Gary Beff says “we are looking forward to competing against an established Premier League team. These are tests that we really look forward and despite being underdogs we hope to be really competitive and give them a good game.” Prince of Wales Hotel have a Shrewsbury derby against Meole Brace, made even more interesting by the fact the two captains work together! Prince captain Danny Wornell admits “I work with Chris Jones, the Meole captain, so we have been having a bit of banter about the game, they are clear favourites so the pressure will be on them! The green is also in their favour as its similar to theirs, but we will give it our best shot and see what happens!” Newport will look to shock Hanwood at Chester Road as they look to roll back the years! Skipper Mark Selley admits it is a “very tough game! If we have 40 start we will give them a fright!” The other two ties sees North Shropshire pair Adderley and Hanmer meet at Archibald Worthington with both teams looking for a distraction from their league form, while the other end of the county sees Horsehay take on Highley at Bylet looking to cause a shock given their respective league form.

All players must have played at least one league game to be eligible to play.

There is no dress code.

All teams to give £1 per player to the host club.
