The 2nd round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup sees five non Premier League teams aiming to make the next round, 3 of them through an upset. Two of them meet at Greenfields, where the Mid Shropshire Champions Newport take on the Whitchurch League Champions Woore. Sinclair finished 3rd in the Mid Shropshire League last season, and will have a test against St Georges at Maddocks. Captain Harry Church says “we hope to give St Georges a good game and to hopefully compete with a top team!” Prince of Wales Hotel were runners-up in the Tanners Shropshire League last season and will fancy a chance of upsetting a Bylet side struggling in the Premier League so far this season. Skipper Tony Hotchkiss says “tonight proves to be a decent challenge to see if we can cope with a Premier side. A few remain out from our Shropshire Cup but some also back and is great to choose from two strong Tanners league teams. Hopefully the rain will hold off and the Childs Ercall Green will be as good as I remember it. Not many of ours will know it so hopefully we’ll pull through.” The final team is Shifnal, an improving team in the Mid Shropshire League but will need to be at their very best to beat Meole Brace at District. Skipper Paul Beer says “it will be a tough game against a very good and established premier team, who have a few with some green knowledge. Looking forward to a good game.”
In the ties involving all Premier League teams, the winners of this competition in the last two years meet at Monkmoor as 2023 winners Sir John Bayley take on 2022 champions Ifton. The two teams met on Friday at Ifton, where the home team inflicted the first league loss on the current Premier League champions. Captain Dickie Jones is “looking forward to the game. We have got a few missing which will make it even harder but we will give it our best shot!” Wem USC meet Hanwood at Allscott, with both teams having been in good form in the league so far this season. Burway are another team in form, and will meet an up and down Hanmer side at Meole Brace in what could be a close game. Highley have withdrawn from their tie against Castlefields due to a lack of available players.
Every players needs to have played at least one league game. Each team should give the host club £12.
