2nd Round:
There weren’t any shocks in the 2nd round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup, but there were a couple of close calls! Bylet only got past Prince of Wales Hotel by 3 chalks at Childs Ercall, captain Cheryl Caswell leading the way 21-11. For the Prince it was Neil Jones best winner 10. Meole Brace survived a scare against Shifnal at District winning by just 10 chalks with only 5 winners. Captain Nick Davies says “District’s green was tricky and weighty – Shifnal ran us close throughout the match. Two good cards on the front from Will Tarrell and Chris Jones gave us a good start. Craig Wilson won well in the middle (best winner 6) to maintain the lead and despite only one winner on the back from Mark Thomas we held on for the win.” Best winner for Shifnal was Shona Baugh 11. St Georges overcame Sinclair by 34 at Maddocks with Joe Killen best winner 6 and John Potter 7 for Sinclair. Woore got past Newport by 31 at Greenfields as Derek Wright was best winner for them 3 and Matthew Bainbridge 11 for Newport.
Wem USC defeated Hanwood by 21 at Allscott Heath to please captain Andy Marshall. “We were extremely pleased with the win over a strong Hanwood side. We had a good start 11 up after four and the middle played very well increasing the lead which made life easier for the back four.” Sarah Weaver was best winner 9 for them, while Hanwood skipper Simon Lane was best for them 8. Burway defeated Hanmer by 20 at Meole Brace with George Cooper best winner 6 for them and Matt Beeston best for Hanmer 12. Sir John Bayley had a comfortable win over Ifton by 50. Best winner for the Bayley was Scott Simpson 6 and for Ifton Sam Williams 11. Castlefields received a walkover into the next round.

1st Round:
Meole Brace shocked Wrockwardine Wood in the 1st round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup after beating them by 25 at Archibald Worthington. Captain Nick Davies said “before the game I told the lads if we could get a good start we’d have a chance. Sure enough we finished the front four with a 21 chalk lead. Moving into the middle the Wrock lads started off really well with Chris Grocott winning 5 (to be best winner for them). But Will Childs cancelled that out and we went into the back four with a lead of 19. At number ten, Will Tyler stormed home 8 and Mark Thomas and Doug Edwards edged their games to give us a fantastic victory against a fancied Wrockwardine Wood side. It was a great win for Meole Brace and we look forward to the draw for the next round!!!” Julian Cooke and Will Childs were best winners 6 for Meole.
The other two games finished 42 shots to the winning team. Wem USC beat Adderley on Chester Road Ladies green, best winner being Ian Metcalfe 8 and Jack Hazeldine 12 for the Adders.
