Castlefields retained the KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup with a 23 shot win over Wrockwardine Wood. They were always ahead after Keith Wall won 12 at number one, despite Helen Clee winning the second half of their game after going 11-0 down in the corners. Anthony Gray was 6-1 down early on against Phil Jones before Anthony got into the corners and from 8-4 down only conceded one more. Sian Skelton did get a win for the Wrockites, converting an early 8-3 lead to win 18. Martin Codd had a close game with John Clarke with no more than 4 separating the two players, Martin winning 18. So after four Castlefields were 21 up.
Into the middle and Wrockwardine Wood came back into the tie. Louise Cotton raced 7-1 up on Steve Duckett but then he played shorter marks to go 15-9 up and won 12 for the Fields. But Tony Garmson did the opposite for Wrockwardine, running out from 9-8 down against James Mammone to close the gap to 18. Rob Clarke was 10-4 up on Michael Thomas and then 17-13, but Michael battled back to win 19, and Ange Gaut was 11-6 up also for the Wrockites and then also 17-13, before Dan Jones got in the corners and got back to lead 19-18. Ange though did finish the game off 19 to be 18 behind still.
This left the last two on the green needing 7 chalks for Castlefields. Craig Elson was 13-4 up on Holly Bishton playing well on a 25m straight mark, but Steve Downs was 14-7 ahead of Carl Wear to give Wrockwardine some hope. But once Carl scored one at 17-8 down the game was won for the Fields. Craig finished his game off 21-9, while Steve won 14 to mean a 23 shot win for the Fields.
