KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup Quarter Finals Preview

The Quarter Finals of the KGJ Shropshire Cup take place tomorrow, with 4 teams going forward to the Semi Final draw on Thursday night.

Battlefield v St Georges at Adderley

St Georges are former runners up in this competition and take on Tanners side Battlefield at Adderley, a team they beat by 18 in the 1st round of 2019 on their way to the final. St Georges captain Pete Gaut said “we’re under no illusions that it will be a tough game against an historically strong team on a green few of us have seen or played before.” Battlefield sit in 5th place in Division One of the Tanners League so far.

Castlefields v Bylet at Bowring small green

Mid Shropshire Division Two side Bylet will be looking to cause a big upset against the current holders Castlefields on the Bowring. Skipper Rob Renke says “we are looking forward to seeing how we get on against the cup holders. We last played them a couple of years ago and we were well beaten so we see this as the toughest draw possible.” Castlefields sit top of the Tanners League at the moment.

Bowring v Wrockwardine Wood at Sir John Bayley bottom green

This is a local clash between two teams who have had good starts in Division One of the Mid Shropshire League, with a very close match at the Bowring between the two last week. Bowring captain Alex Turnbull said “last Friday’s league match proved to be a very close run match going down to the final pairing. If both sides perform to their capabilities then another nail biter should be on the cards. Both sides will have to adapt to a historically challenging green especially if it remains hot and dry.”

Bridgewater v Sir John Bayley at Greenfields Hump

Bridgewater have already took two Mid Shropshire scalps and will be looking to take a third as they play the Bayley at Greenfields. They have easily overcome Sinclair and Newport so far and will be confident of doing the same again, while the Bayley have had an up and down season so far, but had a good win over Trench last round.
