Wrockites & Hadnall edge home, Horsehay defeat runners-up
Wrockwardine Wood and Hadnall edged home in two thrillers in the 1st round of the KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup. Wrockwardine Wood beat Hadley USC by one, Rob Clarke being the hero last on to win 13 after being match down twice, sharing best winner with Holly Bishton. Dave Price was best for the Huskies winning 11. Hadnall defeated Adderley by just 3 chalks, with James Weaver best winner for them 6, and Ross Alkureishi best for the Adders 7. Horsehay had a great win over last year’s runners up Prince of Wales Hotel by 9 chalks. Captain Andy Garbett said “it was a close game I played well (to be best winner 11) with Pete Burd being solid. Neil Harris brought it home for us. Their best player was Ian Marshall, he was proper on it for them!” Best winner for the Prince was captain Danny Wornell 8. Last year’s winner Castlefields didn’t have it all their own way when taking on Allscott Heath, winning by 15 chalks. Steve Duckett was their best winner 7, as Daniel Bretnall replied for Allscott 21-11.
Bridgewater had an impressive win over Sinclair by 55. Captain Matt Blackhurst said “once we’d won the first 5 cards, 3 to single figures we were always comfortable. We’re a solid side, we know we can give anyone in the competition a game. Appreciate that Sinclair came in a bit cold with their league yet to get going so good luck to them for season and best wishes to Dean Corbett who had to give his game up due to illness.” William Stokes was the best of those three single figure winners, 5. Sinclair’s best was Jamie Millman 18. St Georges beat Old Shrewsbury by 24 chalks with Simon Madeley their best 21-7, while Old Shrewsbury had two 21-8 winners in Wendy Jones and Dawn Gray. Sir John Bayley defeated the Crescent by 36 as Gary Owen was the best of 7 winners 21-6. The Crescent’s best was Neil Harris 13.
The draw for the next round takes place tomorrow night, and take place on Wednesday 24th May.
