Barlows & Fire Security Senior Merit: 5 Days to Go – Look back at Qualifiers

Below is a report on the Barlows Fire & Security Senior Merit Qualifying ahead of the finals on Sunday.

District

Former winner Charlie Weaver qualified after beating County Handicap winner Alan Purcell 17, and then Jamie King 15. The player who he beat in that final, Rich Lawson, defeated Clay Flattley 17, while Josh Warner caused a shock after beating former winner Wayne Rogers 20. Tim Jordan got past Jack Purcell 6 to qualify.

Former winner Derek Wright edged past Scott Moseley 20 to qualify after beating Mel Jenkins in the first round. Matt Beeston had a fine win over former winner Martin Lloyd 17 after getting past Alex Hassall. Dan Taylor qualified after beating Jamie Brookes 20, and Ben Hinton defeated Will Brookes 19 to get through.

2018 & 2019 winner Spencer Clarke got through after beating Tom Killen 13 and Scott Harries 14. Keith Pessall rolled back the years to get through by defeating Harry Ryder 10, while former Premier League merit winners Liam Stevens and Josh Bradburn qualified after beating Dale Rudrum 14 and Joe Killen 19, Josh being 12-1 down in that game. Chris Worthington beat team mate Michael Cooper 11 and Rob Burroughs returned to qualify by beating Josh Cotton 6.

Simon Rhodes beat Ash Gregory and Kane Beaman to get through, while Aaron King got past Chris Newbrook 8 and Dave Lloyd overcame Phil Jones 12.

Callum Wraight, a 3 time winner of this event, qualified by beating Andy Marshall 8. His team mate and former runner up Mike Beer qualified in spectacular fashion after beating Ash Wellings 3 and Adie Rowe 8. There were two more Castlefields qualifiers in Russ Pugh and Andy Judson who got past Gary Neal 18 and Jesse James 14, and Will Tarrell 5 respectively. Anthony Gray got through after beating Jon Lyttle 12, while Dave Redge beat Kevin Price 14 to qualify.
