2021 Barlows Senior County Merit Finals Preview

The 2021 Senior County Merit sponsored by Barlows & Fire Security takes place at Nantwich Park Road on Sunday with a mix of past winners, county players and youngsters as well as some new names that have qualified.

Callum Wraight will rightly start as favourite, having won this competition three times, and has finished runner up the last two times this has been run. He faces a tough opener though against an in-form Gary Neal. He also has an incredibly tough quarter to negotiate, which features previous winner Martin Lloyd, who takes on former finalist Rich Lawson, and another previous finalist Wayne Phillips, who plays county player Scott Harries. The quarter is completed by the experienced Mark Thomas and youngster Dave Lloyd. The top quarter is the most open with none of those players having made the last four of this competition before. Andy Judson may start the favourite given his great Premier League form, but has an experienced Doug Edwards first up. Young guns Jack Hewitt and Martin Gaut know all about playing in competitions, while Phil Jones makes his debut in the finals against Julian Cooke. Simon Rhodes and Richard Proudlove make up the quarter.

The bottom half has former winner Rob Roden take on Will Tarrell, while the most successful player in this competition in the last 30 years, Pete Farmer, has Scott Moseley first game. Paul Williams has reached the semi finals before, and plays Andy Marshall, while County Handicap runner up Ben Hinton takes on a familiar face in Matthew Beeston. Clay Flattley and Stuart Rutter are two county players good enough to win this competition, and play Melvyn Jenkins and Steve Broome respectively. Gary Beff made his county debut this year, and hopes to continue his good form against Will Tyler, while the bottom of the draw sees two talented youngsters face off, Dan Taylor and Rob Fuller.

The action starts at 11. Entry is £2.

I have been asked by the Shropshire President to point out her choice of venue has very limited parking which will be reserved for officials & VIPs on the day. Players, guests & spectators are politely asked to park at BRINE LEAS SCHOOL, Audlem Rd, CW5 7DY. where ample parking has been arranged. The school is located approximately 5 minutes walk from the green.
