The first ever finals day of the Edgmond Open take place tomorrow starting at 10.30 with 32 players looking to win the Walter Owen Cup. Greg Smith and Callum Wraight will start as the two favourites looking to add this to their list of competition wins. Greg has Colin Leishman from Greater Manchester first game, while Callum could have his hands full against Tom Killen, who is making more and more impressions on the competition circuit as he goes along. Callum is part of six Castlefields player in the competition as they make a good start to the season. Wayne Rogers has won a competition on Edgmond before, and takes on former Shropshire Junior Merit winner Aaron King first game. The two Palmers brothers have won major competitions before, and play Danny Ferris and Nick Jones first game, another two who have won comps before. Andrew Judson has had a good start to the season and takes on BCGBA Jack & Jean Isherwood Veterans Championship winner Martin Simcock. Peter Farmer from St Georges knows how to win big competitions in Shropshire, he won the Dennis Lewis Open just last season and has won the county merit several times, and has Wrockwardine Wood’s Scott Moseley first, who took two good scalps in qualifying. Rich Goddard is in one of the clashes in the first round against Lee Johnstone from Cheshire, while there is a repeat of last year’s Meole Open final as Reece Farr meets Andy Hughes. Ifton captain Dickie Jones meets Wrockwardine Wood’s Sam Millward, while team mate Leighton Roberts has Adderley’s Jamie Brookes. New Ifton signing Andy Armstrong has a tough starter against Darren Plenderleith of North Midlands. Two former team mates collide as the Bayley’s Ayden Smith meets new St Georges signing Gordon Hawkins, while Michael Cooper, who also left the Bayley for Horsehay, plays Gerwyn Davies first, who has played in this league for Ifton and Chester Road before. Former Bayley man Steve Burroughs returns from Macclesfield to take on Adderley’s Darren Palin, while new St Georges signing and County Handicap winner Keith Wall plays Jack Desmond in the first game of the day.
