Junior Individual Merit History

We have had two winners of this competition, Ian Weaver in 1996 and Callum Wraight in 2003.

Ben Hinton had a marvellous run to the final of the British Junior Individual Merit Final but dipped out to Callum Sharples 15. It was our first finalist since Mike Beer in 2006, and he came close to emulating Callum Wraight in 2003. He had started off with a win against Taylor Miller 13, then Ryan P Williams 16, Jamie Isaac 15 and Tom Hirst in the Semi Finals 14. Our other representative Harry Parsonage also lost to the winner first round 17, the closest anyone had got to him all day.

Well done to Ben on his fantastic run to the final.

Ben with his runner-up trophy.

Harry Church reached the Semi Finals of the BCGBA Junior Individual Merit Championships, as he went as far as any Shropshire Junior has in recent years. He beat Tom Farmer 10 and then Sam Farmer 6, before having a tougher game against Liam Dennis, coming out on top 17, before losing 11 to eventual winner Matty Worden. Kieran Jones also won a game, defeating Matt Packett 13 before losing out to Derbyshire player Louie Furniss 13.

Harry Church and Susie Lawson didn't progress past the first round of the BCGBA Junior Individual Merit as both came up against two of the eventual last four. Fergal Wright defeated Susie Lawson and made the semi finals, where he lost to Lucas Hall, and Harry Church lost to Jack Bushell who made the final, only to be defeated by Lucas Hall of Warwick and Worcester.
