County Cup final - Saturday 8th August 2015 - OSBC Castlefields v Meole Brace Castlefields lifted the Glynn Hill Cup after defeating Meole Brace with 7 winning cards and an impressive 64 chalks in the competition final staged on the No.1 green of Old Shrewsbury. Colin Beaman was adjudged the player of the match after shading his game with Rich Goddard where play of the highest quality from each would have been deserving of the prize for either player. A delighted Castlefields captain, Keith Walton, was quick to acknowledge Meole Brace as very worthy opponents before setting off to celebrate with his team late into the night. Semi Finals:

Shropshire County Cup Semi Final – played on the green of Chester Road Ladies Meole Brace v St Georges St Georges began well winning three of the first four games to open up a 10 shot lead against fellow Premier League Meole Brace that saw Dave King, from 12-12 almost ran out to lead 19-12 and quickly turned it into a 21-13 win. Mike Wainwright pushed from 4-3 into a healthy 14-7 lead, only to be pegged back to trail 17-18 but then scored two doubles to finish 21-18. The sole winner for Meole in the first four had to fight back from 2-10 down to level the game 13-13, Will Tarrell then went on to lead 19-12 and despite a brief revival, Will finished with a 21-16 card. After an evenly matched start of 6-6, 11-11 and 14-14, Nigel Evans pushed forward to lead 19-15 before winning 21-17. Meole Brace 69 – 79 St Georges In a reversal of fortunes, it was Meole Brace who won three of the middle four and with two single figure wins to make them the leaders by 26 chalks. The first of half of his game saw Craig Wilson share the ends until he took his game from 9-6 to 18-10 before finishing 21-13. After conceding 2 on the first end, went quickly in to a 9-2 ends and almost ran out as he went to 9-5 and eventually won 21-5. Simon Madeley struggled at first to pull back from 6-10 before lead 16-12 and got over the win line soon after with 21-16. Meole’s best card of the evening was delivered by Peter Bound as he took the game from 6-2 up to 19-2 before finishing 21-4. Meole Brace 148 – 122 St Georges Despite taking 3 of the last four games to have 7 winning cards, St Georges could not pull the deficit as Meole held on to finish 10 chalks to the good. Glyn Picknell forged a healthy lead from 7-4 to go 17-5 and despite a fightback to double their score, Glyn finished 21-11. Nigel Bound moved from 6-6 to lead 11-8 and 16-13 before running out and finished his game 21-13. St Georges captain, Tony Rhodes began strongly to go 9-2 and 16-8 up before Mark Thomas countered to pull back to within 1 chalk, however he could only manage to add 1 more as Tony finished 21-16. Last game of the evening saw Simon Rhodes and Andy Wiggington share the initial exchanges to tie 7-7 but from trailing 10-12, Simon found a mark and within an 8 end run had run out a 21-12 winner Meole Brace 198 – 188 St Georges Result – Meole Brace defeated St Georges by 10 chalks. In the other Semi Final Castlefields beat Burway by 37 chalks. After the first four they led by 29 after Clay Flattley won 6 and Paul Williams 9. This advantage was extended to 34 after the middle four when Rich Goddard won 7 and after Callum Wraight had won 5 Castlefields had sealed the win.
