Wayne Rogers won his first Flowfit Shropshire Senior Merit on Sunday at Wem Bowling Club to finally get his hands on the Charles Beddard Trophy. He beat the most successful player in the competition over the last 20 years, Pete Farmer, 17 in the final, after beating twice winner Andy Moss in the Semi Finals 19. Pete was only in the final after producing a wonder bowl in his Semi Final against Ian Gaut, running the block through to get over the line 20. But all four players will be representing Shropshire at the Senior Individual Merit Finals at Llay Miners Welfare Club at 10 a.m. on Saturday 30th July.
In the final Wayne raced 13-2 up but Pete from 16-3 down got back to 16-12 as the rain got heavier. But Wayne won the block back again and got back on a short round peg across the middle of the green and got over the line.
Congratulations to Wayne on winning his first Shropshire Senior Merit, as well as to the other three semi-finalists for reaching the Senior Individual Merit Finals.
