On This Day: 7th June 2009

On this day 11 years ago Shropshire were on their way to success in the Crosfield Cup. They earned a vital win over the previous year's finalists Greater Manchester as they banished the semi final defeat from a year before against the same opponents. They even used the same green they defeated us by 55 on, Crompton, but this time the away side learnt their lesson and held them to 11 chalks. Glyn Picknell ran out from about 7-2 down in the middle to be best of 5 winners. At Pontesbury, a nightmare start with just one winner out of the front four, and trailing by 18, was overcome despite sharing the winners overall. Paul Williams and Wayne Rogers both won 4 in the back four to provide a 34 shot win which was more than enough.
