Dennis Lewis Open 2019 Report

Callum Wraight won the Dennis Lewis Open for the first time after beating last year's winner Shane Day 21-7 in the final. He hadn't had it his own way for the day though, coming back from 6-2 down in the final over the middle of the green. It was the 1st round that he had his biggest scare, being 15-5 down to former home player Darren Lord, before winning 20. He then beat Dave Lloyd 13 and Ash Wellings 1o before defeating Paul Williams 15, despite Paul getting back at him in the corners. He had a tough Semi Final against Jamie King, with the game being level at 4, 6, 9 and 12 across. Callum then led 18-12 before Jamie got back to 19-17, but Callum finished it off. In the other Semi Shane and Paul Reeves played a brilliant game that went to the wire. At 19 -19 Paul was 1 on before Shane bowled a brilliant second bowl to win the end before doing the same again next end with his second bowl resting right up on the jack not giving Paul much of a shot.

The greens were in great condition and the weather held out with only a few light drizzles. Many thanks to MPH for sponsoring the competition. Well done to Callum on his success.
