St Georges win KGJ Insurance County Cup

St Georges won their 13th KGJ Insurance County Cup in a thriller with Meole Brace. They won by just 6 chalks with it going down to the last game between Paul Beer and Tim Jordan. Tim had battled back from 12-7 down to get back level and then lead 18-17, and needed to run out to win the game. But Paul held his nerve and ran out himself. Sonya Lucas, the first woman in the final for a long time, had got 18 from 19-7 down, while Andy Morgan also battled back to get 20.

St Georges had led by 6 after four despite Will Tarrell winning 9 for Meole Brace as Pete Grimston's 8 win was the best of the night. A 21-10 card in the middle by Dave King, and aided by those two comebacks detailed above, meant the Dragons extended their lead to 9. But Meole fought back, Martin Middleton winning 10 to win man of the match to put them in the lead, but joint captain Tony Rhodes ran out from 18-14 down to put St Georges back into the lead and Paul finished it off for them. Tony said "there always has to be a winner but to come down to the latter end of the final game created a great spectacle. “Thanks to our team for the win but also to Andy Wiggingon and his Meole team for making it a great evening.”
