The KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup has reached the Quarter Finals stages with eight teams remaining in the four games below:
Prees v Sir John Bayley at Crescent
Prees enter their first Shropshire Cup Quarter Final as underdogs against a Sir John Bayley team doing well in the Mid Shropshire League. Prees captain Ben Grocott says " we go into Wednesday's game against Sir John Bailey with a very strong team from 1-12. There is a few people which we have brought back into the side to boost our team so we can try and get in with a chance of reaching the semi finals. We know against the SJB team we are going to have a good game because of they are a respected 4th in Division 1 of the Mid Shropshire League and we are currently 5th in the Whitchurch league. It’s always a bonus when we don’t have to travel as far as we did in the last round where it’s half way for them and us to Crescent. We look forward to a good game on Wednesday night." The Bayley beat a good Bylet side last round and will want to make it to their first Shropshire Cup Semi Final too.
Hadnall v St Georges at Pontesbury Nags Head
Hadnall will look to take another Mid Shropshire scalp as they take on St Georges at Pontesbury. St Georges are currently top of the Mid Shropshire League while Hadnall are in Division Two of the Tanners Shropshire League. They did defeat Newport last round, another Mid Shropshire team, so a shock could be on the cards. Captain Graham Snelson is "expecting another tough game from higher opposition, but looking forward to another cup match in which we're enjoying a good run."
Castlefields v Telepost at Old Shrewsbury no.2
2017 winners Castlefields take on Telepost in a re-run of that final. Both teams are doing well in the Tanners Shropshire League so it could well be a close game. Fields skipper Martin Codd says "we know we are up against a top side full of quality and we will need to be at our absolute best to stand a chance. We are all looking forward to it and are up for the challenge. Hopefully will be a great night."
Pontesbury v Hadley USC at District Back Green
Hadley USC will look to make another Semi Final in this competition as they take on 2016 runners up Pontesbury at District. Their form has been up and down so far this season and spokesman Phil King thinks "it will be a close game having personally played against Pontesbury earlier this year they have some very good players. We have a couple unavailable but we will give them a good game and a have a few drinks after." Pontesbury have had a good season so far, sitting third in the Tanners Shropshire League.
The results will be on here.
