KGJ Insurance County Cup Quarter Final Review

Meole Brace beat Chester Road by 36 at Horsehay

Meole Brace reached their first County Cup Semi Final since 2015 as they beat Chester Road by 36. Stand in captain Scott Moseley said it was " a great team performance from the lads, managing to fight back well on the front 4 and keep the game tight, with Dave Redge continuing his form and Will Tarrell showing his class. Some more battling from the middle with Nigel Bound running out from 13-8 down stalking them in, and Adie Jennings and Jon Lyttle both playing some great stuff, to give us an edge into the back before we took control and got the job done, all while the skipper put his feet up and watched Love Island. We wish Chester Road all the best for the rest of the season some top lads and it was a good game on an interesting green." Mark Thomas and Doug Edwards were the best winners for them 11, while Mark Holland and Paul Griffiths were best for the Road 12.

Wem USC beat Hanwood by 25 at Sinclair

Wem USC caused another surprise as they beat Hanwood by 25 after trailing by 4 after eight games off and then winning the whole of the back four. Skipper Scott Thomas commented "we put in a great performance against Hanwood on Wednesday. We were at it from start to finish, contained their first eight and our back four really put a performance in to give us a very pleasing win. We won eight out of the twelve games and are already looking forward to a semi final against the lads from Meole. Should be a good game between two sporting teams with a great atmosphere! Bylet beat Castlefields by 5 at Sir John Bayley Bottom

In one of the biggest shocks in the County Cup for a number of years the Bylet defeated record holders Castlefields by 5, to leave captain Scott Harries "absolutely delighted. What a night, what a win and what a team performance. The proudest moment of my captaincy so far and one of the biggest wins for many years for the team. We never stopped believing from the start that we could upset the odds, even when it looked like it was slipping away we stuck in there and ground it out. I'm going to single out a few players but from 1-12 every one of us did our bit. We held on in there after the first 4 by just being behind by 1 chalk, numerous games swung both ways but James Duce running out from 17-10 down v Glyn Herbert was pivotal. Then, after briefly leading by 9 after Matt Ealey beat Andy Duckett 11, we then lost the following 4 games, one of which was a tremendous battling card by Simon Rhodes to hold Callum Wraight to 19. Being 20 down with 3 left on we looked down and out but what a team spirit we have built in our side. Nick Lewis won 9 playing superbly (to be best winner), bringing the agg down to 8 then Richie Morris got the better of JP in a quality game 17 leaving the agg with 4 in it and Jamie 12-9 down v Adam last on the green. Jamie ran out in the 3 quarter corners and delivered an exhibition in putting nothing outside of 1-2 feet every bowl leaving Adam no chance. The 5 chalk comeback was complete and we are into our first County Cup Semi Final since 2007. Commiserations to Castlefields, atmosphere was brilliant and it was played in the right manner, top class from you lads and all the best in your quest for retaining your league title. We fear nobody though, we know we can beat anybody on our day and finally we aren't a team to be taken lightly anymore. We are in this to win it so bring it on." Best winner for the Fields was Paul Williams 8.
