The Tanners Shropshire league repeated their 2017 success in the 2019 Veterans Inter League today by winning the competition on Meole Brace. They beat Market Drayton by 19 in the final with 6 winners, their best being Dave Beer 10, with Allan Bailey's 12 win the best for the opposition.
The Tanners had come through a tough group by winning all three group games against Whitchurch A, Mid Shropshire and Market Drayton Seniors. They defeated Whitchurch A by 31, Graeme Wornell their best winner 8, with Brian Jones the best for the opposition 17. They got past Mid Shropshire by 46, as Graeme was best winner again 8, and Ian Delves the only winner for the Mid Shropshire League 18. Their closest game was against Market Drayton Seniors as they won by 17, Keith Owen their best winner 10 and Graham Wood best winner for the Seniors 12. Mid Shropshire won their other two games beating Whitchurch by 16 with Les Mumford their best winner 10, Alan Faulkner best for the Whitchurch League 14, and Market Drayton Seniors by 38, captain Pete Roden winning 9 and Philip Hughes 17 for the opposition. The other game in the group was the closest with Whitchurch beating Market Drayton Seniors by 5. Eddie Broad and Brian Jones were best for the winners 21-12, while Gregory Ashton was best for the opposition 13.
The other group had a drop out in Whitchurch B, so only three teams took part. Market Drayton won both of their games, by 50 against North Shropshire Ladies with 8 winners, the best of them being Derek Cox 8. They beat Wem in their other game by 36, Barry Hughes their best winner 9, with John Griffiths the only winner for the Wem League 13. North Shropshire Ladies won the other game by 26, Gill Edge their best winner 8 and Mike Greaves best for Wem 14.
