North & South Shropshire Derby, Hadnall & Battlefield look for shockThere is a north and south Shropshire derby in the preliminary round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup. Hanmer beat last year's semi finalists Ifton in what promises to be a close encounter on Chester Road. Ifton also reached the final in 2017 too so have a good record in this competition recently. Captain Dickie Jones comments "should be a good derby cup tie and we hope to continue our good record of the past two seasons." Hanmer haven't had a good run themselves yet in this competition, so will hope this is their year. Skipper Dave Ellison comments “we go into tonight's game against our local rivals with a completely changed team because of events off the green but will give it a go and I expect a close game maybe even going to the last game.” The other derby takes place between Burway and Highley at Old Shrewsbury. Burway skipper Jesse James says "we are looking forward to the game and the lads are up for it. I said at the start of the season we wanted a good cup run, and this is the one cup everyone wants, so we best get at it." Highley are the reigning Shropshire Cup holders, and joint captain Ben Dixon says "we are relatively full strength and we hope to give Burway a good game on a green we haven't played, but have fond memories on a green 5 yards away so hopefully a bit of play off final night rubs off! They are a good side but so are we generally on the road, so I expect a tight game between 10/15 shots either way but I've been wrong before! I just hope we do ourselves credit on and off the green and give this cup the respect it deserves!" Hadnall and Battlefield will look to shock Premier League opposition in Chester Road and Wrockwardine Wood. Hadnall are in Tanners Shropshire Division Two but have been playing in Whitchurch Division 1 recently, so hopefully that experience will help them. Chester Road have struggled in the league so far but have won this competition recently and will be looking for their cup run to help them boost their league form. Battlefield finished 9th in the Tanners Shropshire last season but do have some players left from their Premier League days. Wrockwardine Wood are due a good run in this competition, and will be hoping that this year is that year.
