Highlights from the Quarter Finals Jamie King quickly turned a 5-1 lead into 11-2 before Greg & Rob Smith halved their deficit to trail 13-7 only for their opponents to kick again going on to 18-7 and soon finished the game 21-10. Dean Corbett & Ian Ball found the going tough as they saw their 5-1 lead evaporate as Darryl Handley & Stuart Gittins took control to lead 15-5. The homesters replied with a brace of triple scoring ends to close the gap to 15-11 but couldn’t keep hold of the jack as the scores went onto 19-11 and the game ended 21-14. Dan Taylor & Sally Clee opened with two full house fours in the first three ends and stormed into leads of 16-2 and 19-3 before home green pairing of Paul Venables & Elsie Pugh eventually wrestled and held possession of the jack to make it into double figures which was all too little, too late as the score ended 21-12. Sonya Lucas & Alison Cotton dominated their game against Adrian Bailey & Simon Hall by conceding chalks in only four of the sixteen ends played as they went from 3-3 to 19-3 then finished off 21-5. Highlights from the Semi-Finals As the daylight faded the semi finals began with Jamie King & Scott Harries turned a 2-4 deficit into a lead of 12-4 and then from 12-8 they moved onto 19-8 before Darryl Handley & Stuart Gittins hit back in four ends to close to 19-17 only to succumb at the 21st end as Jamie & Scott booked their place in the final winning 21-17. Meanwhile, Dan Taylor & Sally Clee, from 4-4 went into a 10-4 lead until Sonya Lucas & Alison Cotton fought back to close to 10-8 but they then found almost impossible to get the jack as Dan & Sally took nine of the last ten ends to also finish on the 21st end to win through 21-9. Highlights from the Final The final between Jamie King & Scott Harries and Dan Taylor & Sally Clee started as an evenly matched game with Jamie & Scott’s 9-3(7ends) lead being almost wiped out by Dan & Sally as they pulled up to trail 11-12(13ends) only for their opponents to go again up to 17-11 and after a couple of ends that showed signs of a revival Jamie & Scott emphatically stamped their authority on the game by scoring a full house four chalks to end the game and begin their reign as 2019 champions with a 21-14(18ends) card. Club Chairman, Don Hood thanked organizer Stuart Church, club members for providing refreshments before making the presentations to the worthy competitors.
