KGJ Insurance County Cup 2018 Final Report

Sir John Bayley won the 2018 KGJ Insurance County Cup Final as they beat Newport by 15 chalks at a very wet Bowring. They were always ahead after man of the match winner Alex Jones won 7 for them on his usual 20/25m marks. Pete Farmer though had a great run in the corners to win 12 after being only 9-7 up, and Russ Pegram won 20 for Newport against Paul Evans. But Tom Roden pulled away himself to win 15 to give the Bayley a 10 shot lead. As the rain increased into the middle four, Matt Fellows was 15-6 up on Ant Bracken down an edge, before Ant got in and stretched him out to lead 17-15 and finish it off 17. The other three games were close affairs, with Sam Millward and Mark Selley winning 19 for Newport, and Norman Harvey recovering well to win 20 for the Bayley. This meant the Bayley had an 11 shot lead. Chris Ward then extended this to 17, but Ian Whittington won 11 to cut this to 7, but Gordon Hawkins was 17-6 up for the Bayley, with Kieran Buckley a few behind Pete Cookson. Gordon got out 11 to finish the game off, while Pete Cookson won 19 to make the scoreline 15 to the Bayley.
