Shropshire v Derbyshire Junior County Preview

Shropshire take on Derbyshire tomorrow knowing that they must win or be relegated from the Premier Division of the BCGBA Drakes Pride Junior County. Shropshire have failed to win so far despite some promising performances, so have turned back to Maddocks, scene of our last Junior final in 2014, to try and get that win. Selector Rich Lawson says "it's going to be another tough game against Derbyshire but the Juniors will go out and do their very best to get the win. It's been a tough campaign as we have had to play Yorkshire and Warwick and Worcester but I'm proud of the way the team has battled against stronger opposition. We are a young emerging team and I've seen enough over those games this season that gives me plenty of encouragement for the future, and for tomorrow to get our first win of the year." Junior Merit champion Harry Church leads the team out at number one, while his opponent who he beat in the final, does so away at Littleover Bowls Club. Byron Fletcher keeps his place after an impressive debut as reserve last game, while Matt Beck and Liam Dovey come back in after holidays and James Shepherd comes in for his debut in place of the unavailable Ben Hinton. Even if Shropshire win, we must hope that the Derbyshire and Wales result goes the right way in September.
