KGJ Insurance County Cup Final Preview

The KGJ Insurance County Cup Final takes place tonight in a rematch of the 2013 final between Sir John Bayley and Newport. On that night the Bayley took Newport apart but Newport won it the year after that, and that is the last time both experienced success in this competition. Since then both teams also won the Premier League, and are in the title race this season. Both teams have quality players in abundance and there are some tasty ties from the off. Pete Farmer has only lost once in the Premier League for Newport, and takes on Scott Simpson at number one. Alex Jones has managed to squeeze in 8 games over the last month and is first four, while Russ Pegram of Newport and Paul Evans of the Bayley is an all Staffordshire clash. Matt Fellows is another to have played the bare eight and is involved in the tie of the night against Ant Bracken, both players being major winners in their respective counties. There is a battle of the young guns with Newport captain Sam Millward facing Josh Hale. At the back and the Bayley have the experinced pair of Chris Ward and Gordon Hawkins to try and bring it home, Chris facing former Bayley boy Paul Reeves. If this game is as close as last years then we are in for a treat! But Tom Langford won’t be bringing it home again as he is in the first four this year, and becoming to be one of the few players to win this competition consecutively with different clubs.
  • There is a programme available for £1 tonight from Rob Burroughs.
