KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup Semi Finals Preview

The Semi Finals of the KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup take place tonight as four teams aim to make the final on Saturday 4th August. Last year's holders Castlefields are still in with a chance of being the first time to retain the trophy, but take on 2016 winners Prince of Wales Hotel at Greenfields. Captain Graham Wall said we are "looking forward to the game against another team we are competing against at the top of our own league. A tricky green to contest with as well, so looking forward to an enjoyable night, and hoping to repeat last year's success." Prince of Wales have enjoyed a good run so far, including beating Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League side Hanmer in the County Cup. Last year's runners up Telepost are hoping to make it two finals in a row as they take on 2016 Semi Finalists Highley. The two teams have never met before, but captain Rob Jones says "Highley will have every respect from us. They are flying high in the Mid Shropshire League so will not be underestimated. It's a massive game for both sides, so we need to be on our game from the start. The Bridgewater green will probably be the difference between the two sides." Highley will be looking for their first ever Shropshire final, and came so close to doing so in 2016, when losing out to Prince of Wales Hotel by just 1 chalk. Skipper Geoff Wylde is "looking forward to another Semi Final in this cup. We have no knowledge of the green or our opponents but are sure it will be a tough game. Hoping to have most of our squad available but work commitments could change that." A reminder that dress code applies and that all players must have played 6 games for a league or leagues affiliated to SCGBA.
