KGJ Insurance County Cup 1st Semi Final Report

Newport beat Bowring in a thrilling KGJ Insurance County Cup Semi Final by just 2 chalks on St Georges Bottom Green. They fought back after being behind all game till the final end. The 2016 winners led by 16 after the first four with Josh Bradburn their best winner 11. Pete Farmer continued his Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League form by winning 6 for the 2012 & 2014 winners 21-6, but another 11 winner for Bowring meant they still led by 16. But Newport are made of stern stuff and battled back by taking the last 4 winners, Dale Rudrum 14, Pete Cookson 16, Paul Reeves 18 and then Mick Jones using all his experience to win 18 and the game for the Fishes. Delighted winning captain Sam Millward commented on "such a good game throughout I was on edge all through the back four! Bowring had a number of games that were well up throughout the night and we managed to scramble well in them. Full credit to Bowring, a great side and they showed tonight they’re no pushovers and are 100% underachieving in the league. Wish them all the best for the rest of the season." So Newport will play either Sir John Bayley in a repeat of the 2013 final or Ifton in a repeat of last year's Semi Final, at a Telford or Shrewsbury venue respectively. Both teams play on Saturday at Old Shrewsbury, and if it is as close or as thrilling as this one, we are in for a treat! Full scores:
