KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup Quarter Finals Preview

  • Highley (2nd in Mid Shropshire League) vs. Bowring (6th in Mid Shropshire League) at Edgmond
Two teams in the top 6 of the Mid Shropshire League meet on Edgmond for a place in the Semi Finals of the Shropshire Cup. Bowring have come through a couple of close games so far, while Highley have won fairly comfortably, including against Bowring's neighbours Sir John Bayley. Highley captain Geoff Wylde comments "as usual we're missing a couple of players on a Wednesday but will have a fair side out. Sure to be a close game as Bowring have plenty of good players in their ranks and the green choice is a fair one."
  • Castlefields (2nd in Tanners Shropshire League) vs. District (7th in Market Drayton League) at Trench
Castlefields are the holders in the competition and overcame a scare last round against Sinclair to come through. They are doing well in the league too and will be desperate to keep hold of the trophy. District are the only North Shropshire Team left in the competition and have come through a couple of close games. Captain Mike Mullock says "we have a stronger team out than in previous rounds. We've been practising penalties in case it goes to a shoot out!"
  • Hadley USC (3rd in Mid Shropshire League) vs. Prince of Wales Hotel (4th in Tanners Shropshire) at Atcham Malthouse
Hadley USC will be looking to make amends for their Semi Final loss last season as they take on the 2016 winners who will be looking to reclaim the trophy. Both teams have been relatively comfortable so far and both will have some cup experience of the green. Ian Smith, captain of Prince of Wales Hotel, knows "Hadley are a very strong side and obviously favourites. Atcham should be very interesting after the mini heatwave. The Prince as a team always love a challenge and will be hoping to have a good game! Greens as they are who knows what the result could be!"
  • Telepost (6th in Tanners Shropshire League) vs. Wrockwardine Wood (5th in Mid Shropshire League) at Prees
Wrockwardine Wood come off a great win over neighbours St Georges in the last round and face last year's runners up Telepost. Telepost will be looking to reach the final and put wrong that right from last season. Wrockwardine Wood skipper Josh Cotton says we "face another tough game against last years runners up. We have everyone available this week and feel we have what it takes to get the right result."
  • A reminder that all players must have played a minimum of four games in one or a number of leagues affliated to the SCGBA.
  • The draw for the Semi Finals will take place on Thursday at about 10:45.
