Shropshire earn first win but not enough for Supplementary Place

Shropshire earned their first win of the season but it wasn't by enough of a margin to get that Supplementary place in August. A great away performance on Hazel Pear, where we restricted Cheshire to just a 5 shot win, meant a 17 shot home win on Elephant and Castle was enough to win overall by 12. Colin Beaman won 9 in the first four at home, although this meant only a 3 shot lead, but Shropshire's man of the match Chris Worthington won 11 and Mike Beer 20 to give us a one chalk lead away in the front. The lead was only extended by 1 at home in the middle, led by Josh Bradburn's 14 card, and we were 14 down away too despite Wayne Rogers winning 17. But Merit champion Spencer Clarke's 8 win was key to reducing the damage there, along with Rich Goddard's 12 win to just a loss of 5. Two 13 winners at the back at home meant that was enough, led by Shropshire man of the match Dave Lloyd's first ever county win on his home debut and Paul Reeves. So Shropshire's 2018 campaign is over, and we look forward to 2019 when we face North Lancs & Fylde, Cumbria and Yorkshire in a group with plenty of mileage involved.
