Hadley USC (3rd in Mid Shropshire Division One) vs. Sir John Bayley (2nd in Premier League) at Bylet non-premHadley USC are the only non Premier League team through to the last 8 after beating Bylet on most winners last round. They face a much tougher tie this time round as they face Sir John Bayley, the 2013 winners. Both teams met last year, with the Bayley coming out on top easily on Allscott, so Hadley will need to up their game and hope the Bayley have an off night, while the Bayley will want to remain professional and reach their first Semi since 2016.
Newport (1st in Premier League) vs. St Georges (7th in Premier League) at SinclairThe tie of the round sees the current Premier League leaders Newport take on the current holders St Georges. Newport have been flying in the league so far this season, and beat Castlefields from behind in the last round. Captain Sam Millward says it is a "massive game for us against last year’s winners, it's always a good battle against our local rivals. Hopefully we’ll get off to a better start then we did on District last round. May the best team on the night win!" Opposition joint skipper Ian Gaut knows it will be a "tough task against an experienced team that are playing well. But as current holders we will be trying everything in our power to put in the required performance to hold onto the trophy." St Georges have done well away so far this season in the league, including getting 5 winners on Newport earlier this season, so know they can produce the goods on other greens and against them.
Bowring (12th in Premier League) vs. Chester Road (13th in Premier League) at Old Shrewsbury no.2Both teams will be hoping that the cup provides some solace for them as they are both struggling in the league, and are both locked on 63 points together. Bowring are the 2016 winners, while Chester Road dominated for a number of years earlier this century, but have not won it since 2011. Both teams will be looking to put their poor league form behind them as they chase another spot in the Semi Finals. Bowring got 5 at Chester Road this season and only lost by a handful of chalks, so will be hoping to build on that impressive performance, while Chester Road will look at producing a similar performance to what they did in the 1st round against Meole Brace.
Ifton (10th in Premier League) vs. Wem USC (8th in Premier League) at HanwoodWem USC have been playing very well in the Premier League this season and will fancy their chances of continuing this good form and make the Semi Finals for the first time in a while. Captain Scott Thomas is "looking forward to tonight's game. Should be competitive from start to finish, which could go either way. Ifton will no doubt have a quality side out but we are in good form and enjoy playing the tricky Hanwood green. It's a good chance for both teams to get to the Semi Final and we'll be doing our upmost to make it through." Both teams got 2 winners on Hanwood this season, but Ifton did win on it last season. Skipper Dickie Jones says "we are looking forward to the game. The league position of both sides says it will be a tight game!" Ifton reached the final last season with a series of impressive displays, and continued that last round against Wrockwardine Wood, so will be in confident mood being another cup game. A reminder that no dress code applies, and that players must have played at least 4 games in one or a number of leagues affliated to the SCGBA to be able to play in the game. The draw for the Semi Finals will be made on Thursday morning about half 10.
