Shropshire Senior Merit Qualifiers – Shrewsbury & Telford

There are 24 spots left in the Shropshire Senior Merit as 100 players aim to qualify for finals day on Sunday 24th June. Reigning holder Callum Wraight and Champion of Champion Mike Beer feature at Telepost, along with Castlefields team mates Andy Duckett and Ade Rowe. 2016 winner Wayne Rogers is also there, along with county team mate Darren Wellings. Meole Brace have 5 players there including former captain Mark Thomas. At Crescent, in honour of the late great Dick Meyrick, there is last year's runner up Peter Bound, along with young gun Will Tarrell. Former runner up Glyn Herbert and former Semi Finalist Paul Williams are also there, along with former winner Simon Parsonage and his son Harry Parsonage. Ash Wellings has enjoyed a good start to the season, as well as his Dad Glyn Wellings, and take their place there. Tanners Shropshire League players Gary Neal, Simon Lane and Graeme Wornell could play a part too against their Premier League rivals. The final Shrewsbury venue is Bicton, where former winners Colin Beaman, Kiah Roberts, Keith Walton and Derek Wright take part, with Wayne Phillips being another big player there. There is only one former winner in the entire Telford field, with Rob Roden, who has recently moved to Trench, taking part at Sinclair. Also there are two former Staffordshire County players, Russ Pegram and Dan Taylor, the latter having won their Merit just a few years ago. Ian Gaut was a semi finalist back in 2016 and is taking part there. At St Georges and young guns dominate the field. Sam Millward, Aaron King, Martin Gaut, Dave Lloyd, Neil Martin, Kieran Buckley, Tom Roden, Liam Stevens, Stuart Clee and Rob Fuller are all 30 or under and looking to make their mark on the competition, although Tom did make the semi finals before. But former runner up Spencer Clarke is looking for experience to help get him through. Albrighton does have a few under 30s taking part there too, with Jamie King, Josh Bradburn, Ryan Mills, Ayden Smith, John Potter and Josh Cotton all there. But there is plenty of experience there, with Scott Harries, Dave King, Pete Grimston, Tony Rhodes, Chris Worthington and Dave Rhodes all looking to make their mark on this competition, although some have made the semi finals before.
