KGJ Insurance County Cup 1st Round Review

Prince shock Hanmer, Chester Road edge out Meole, Hanwood & Burway through

The Prince Hotel shocked Hanmer in the story of the 1st round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup on Horsehay. They won comfortably by 29 overall to leave captain Ian Smith delighted. "The game was very tight with only 4 points difference after the first four with Hanmer taking 3 out of the 4 games. The game went in our favour in the middle with 4 winners meaning Prince were 20 up. Back four was shared, 2 games each, but with a fantastic win from Prince's new signing this season Rob Jones, 21-6, sealed the win. The games were all close with some excellent bowling by both teams played in good spirit. The green was superb to play on!" Martin Elson had the best win for the Premier League side 15. In the clash of the two Salop Leisure Premier League teams it was Chester Road who edged out Meole Brace by 11 chalks. Winning captain Paul Fowles was "very happy to have won. We had 4 players out so we have to be happy! It was a great game played in good spirit, it was close all the way. Both teams gave it there all and just about came out on top." Best winners for both sides were 21-8, Martin Lloyd for the Road and Ade Jennings for Meole. Hanwood and Burway got through easily, with just one loser against Sinclair and Hadnall respectively. Elsie Pugh was Sinclair's sole winner 21-10, but Hanwood's Darren Wellings' 3 win helped them to a 73 shot win on Archibald Worthington. Burway were more ruthless in their game, winning by 133 on Bridgnorth, with three 21-2 wins for Kiah Roberts, Len Lewis and Ben James. Will Childs was the only winner for the Tanners Division 2 side, winning 18 at number 12 to give the village club something to cheer about! The all non Premier League tie was the closest game, Madeley Cricket Club coming out on top by just 5 shots. Kevin Lavelle's 7 win at the back was decisive for the Mid Shropshire side, with Roger Whitfield's 7 win in vain for the Tanners side. The draw for the next round is on Saturday from half 10, along with the Shropshire Cup draw.
