KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup Preliminary Round Preview

Three champions take part, former winners involved

The preliminary round of the KGJ Insurance Shropshire Cup takes place tonight and two League champions take part. Market Drayton League champions Bridgewater take on 2016 semi finalists Highley on Telepost in the tie of the round, but both teams are beset by selection problems. Captain of Bridgewater Greg Fordham says the "Shropshire Cup is back and the Waterboys will be aiming to challenge again as we take on Highley who have had a good start to their campaign, so should be an interesting night at Telepost." Highley do indeed sit top of the Mid Shropshire League but "could have done without the game as there are Staffordshire Cup matches the same night so 5 players missing" says captain Geoff Wylde. "Have never seen the green but will do our best." Mid Shropshire League champions Hadley USC also take part and play Hodnet at Greenfields. Skipper Ray Gregory admits "we don't know anything about Hodnet and me personally have never played on Greenfields. But I have got some good players who do, so I hope that they can get us through." Hodnet have had a poor start to the season so will hope the cup can give them some rest bite. The final games sees Mid Shropshire League team Horsehay play Whitchurch League side Hadnall at Pontesbury New Green now. Horsehay won this competition in its old guise back in 2013, while Hadnall are relative newcomers to this competition. The fourth game between Woore and Shifnal has been awarded to Shifnal as Woore could not field a team.
