The 1st weekend of the St Georges Open took place today after many volunteers spent hours clearing the snow off the green as you can see below.
Shropshire only got 2 of the 8 tickets this weekend at the St Georges Open with multiple Merit winners Callum Wraight and Pete Farmer both getting through. Pete from Newport will be one of the favourites on finals day on his old green but had a tough game to qualify against the improving Josh Mordue, beating him 18. Reigning Merit Champion Callum Wraight from Castlefields will also be one of the favourites, and he got past James Southern 12 to qualify. Rich Lawson came close but lost in the qualifier to Chris Mordue from Yorkshire 6, with Paul Evans taking the other spot, getting past Glynn Cookson 16.
On Saturday and Jon Palmer and Scott Simpson both qualified comfortably after beating Staffordshire's Nick Wyer and Wales' Martin Jones 8. Dan Bodley also qualified for Staffordshire by defeating Adam Kirby 19, while Glen Herbert of Warwick and Worcester beat Dan's dad Steve 14.
