Below is a report of the 2017 Llanymynech Doubles as told by organiser Kieran Jones.
The competition was kindly sponsored by Mr Martin Owen, of S Owen and Sons, with members of Llanymynech providing help and support to the 17 year old organiser Kieran Jones. Following an entry of 30 of 32 places, the Llanymynech Doubles Open Competition on Sunday 24th September, attracted pairs from afar a field as Liverpool, Stoke on Trent and Wolverhampton as well as numerous Shropshire Locals. The weather was good from the start till the Semi-finals, but that did not dampen the competitiveness, with both the organiser and ‘homester’ Kieran Jones, with Rich Lawson winning their semi-final to 9, against Cedric Bancroft and Phil Bundred, being joined in the final by Dave Bond and Dave Edwards who beat Andrew Jones and Gary Wilkie also to 9. Following a competitive final, Jones and Lawson won 21-19. In fact Bond and Edwards, were lying to go to 20 -19 up , but bowling in they moved the jack just far enough for Jones and Lawson to count 1. For the next and final end Jones made a great lead in the final end, which none of the opponents could move. It was great that so many people supported the competition and hopefully next year we can continue to run another successful competition.
