Shropshire just dipped out today in the Endsleigh Senior County Championship by 4 chalks against North Midlands. It was another agonising loss after narrow defeats in the previous campaigns but it only took a late rally to get close. A poor start at home meant a deficit of 11 with only Kiah Roberts and Callum Wraight winning, while away despite four losers were we only behind by 13 with Martin Lloyd doing very well to get back to 19 from 11-1 down against former homester Steve Pratt. In the middle and three winners at home meant the deficit was overturned by we only led by 1 still. No more winners away despite some battling performances meant we were 40 chalks down and 39 overall. Two more good winners for North Midlands meant they were 62 shots up at Dunlop and virtually there but a 9 win by Paul Reeves and 11 by Tom Roden meant it wasn’t a bad 40 shot loss away from home in the end. At Greenfields and Rich Goddard won 13 and with Mike Beer winning 4 it meant the game wasn’t over just yet. Once Colin Beaman won 16 it meant Wayne Rogers was left on the green 9 across needing to win 11 for a win or 12 for a draw. But Wayne could only win 16 and it meant another close loss for the team.
Well done to North Midlands who go on to play Potteries & District in the final.
