KGJ Insurance County Cup 2nd Round Review

Ifton bash Bayley, Newport crush Castlefields, Bylet edge out Hanwood

Ifton and Newport scored stunning victories in the 2nd round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup as they beat Sir John Bayley and Castlefields comfortably. Ifton beat the Bayley by 65 shots at Hadnall in a comfortable victory, which delighted skipper Dickie Jones. “Fantastic team performance against a top team our front four got us off to a great start for us to lead by 46 and our players continued to play well, with Kieron Roberts and Martin Jones rounding off a great night.” Nicky Jones led from the front winning 6 while Gary Cooper was best winner for the Bayley winning 12. Newport were close behind in their performance beating the record holders Castlefields by 32 on Calverhall. The 2014 winners adapted to the green much better and had 7 out of the first 8 winners, led by Peter Farmer’s 7 win. Adam Jones’ 10 win threatened a comeback but Pete Cookson’s 9 win stopped it in its tracks. Bylet won the closest game after beating Hanwood by 7 chalks on Edgmond. Rob Perry led the way winning 5 while Russ Wellings was best for Hanwood who just dipped out. Wrockwardine Wood were comfortable winners over Hanmer with 10 winners, although with two single figure losers the deficit was only 33. Stuart Rutter was best for them 7 while Hanmer’s two winners were Andy Armstrong and Dave Ellison 8.

There were no shocks at all as all the Premier League clubs beat their Tanners opposition. St Georges beat the Prince Hotel comfortably as they suffered from having 6 regulars out. They did manage one winner in Chris Wilson 19 but the Dragons had 6 single figure winners led by Tom Langford’s 2 win. Meole Brace defeated Elephant and Castle comfortably while Bowring were struggling first four, with Gwyn Jones winning 1 for Old Shrewsbury and Reece Farr 1 for them, before three single figure winners sealed the win by 58. Chester Road had 5 single figure victories in their win over Battlefield, but only won by 37. Chris Stretch was the best for them winning 6 while for Battlefield Keith Owen was the standout card in their 4 winners, 9. Captain Paul Fowles commented “was happy with the game as we played ok. The older Battlefield lads showed why they have been class bowlers for a long time they were impressive but we just had to much for them.”
