Shropshire Cup Preliminary Round Preview

The Shropshire Cup starts today with seven preliminary ties that will take us down to 32 teams for the 1st round. The pick of the bunch is a clash of past Mid Shropshire champions St Georges and Bowring at Hadley USC. Bowring captain Sean Round says "obviously a tough game against a side that is always fighting for the the Division One Title. We have lost a few players but still have a lot of experience. We do have a few players who have played for Hadley USC over the years so hopefully this could help us." St Georges captain Steve Pessall says he has a "pretty much full strength team due to being so early in the season (and not many having played a Premier League game). Both teams know the green so should be a close run thing hopefully." There is another all Division One Mid Shropshire clash between champions Donnington Wood and Sinclair at Edgmond, while fellow Division One side Madeley Cricket Club aim to avoid an upset against Wem League Division 5 side Atcham Malthouse at Hadnall. 2013 Consolation Cup winners Horsehay against District is a clash of Division One sides from Mid Shropshire and Market Drayton respectively and Horsehay captain Rich Simmonds says "we don't know anything about District, or the Telepost green, so just going there to play some bowls and see where it takes us!" Burway will be looking for an upset against fellow Tanners Shropshire League side Telepost, but the Division 3 side have a "very weak side out so have no expectations" says captain Simon Parsonage. Telepost reached the Semi Finals last season and will be favourites to go close again. Wem Division 4 side Monkmoor look to shock Mid Shropshire Division 2 team Trench at Elephant and Castle, while 2015 Consolation Cup winners Adderley play fellow Consolation Cup winners Old Shrewsbury over at Donnington Wood with a different side to last year after player movement over the Winter.   Clubs are reminded that the winning captain must TEXT the result through to the usual number which is 07790 305754 by 11.30 p.m. on the night.
The winning captain must also enter the result via within 24 hours.
