With just a week to go to the Preliminary Round of the Shropshire Cup and a month till the 1st round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup we look back at the two draws made last Saturday.
In the Shropshire Cup and Mid Shropshire Teams dominate the draw with two all Mid Shropshire clashes. St Georges against Bowring promises to be an interesting tie involving two second teams. St Georges have strengthened over the Winter and will be hoping to bridge the gap that the two teams had last season. Champions Donnington Wood will be favourites against Sinclair but depends on what team they can field on a Wednesday night, while Mid Shropshire Division teams Trench and Madeley Cricket Club will hope to avoid upsets against Wem League teams Monkmoor and Atcham Malthouse respectively. Horsehay against District promises to be a close clash between two teams of Division One status in their respective leagues, as well as 2015 Consolation Cup Winners Adderley against 2014 runners up Old Shrewsbury. Division Three Burway will look to cause an upset against Division One side Telepost in an all Tanners Shropshire clash.
Preliminary Round Draw (to be played on Wednesday 19th April)
Horsehay v District at Telepost
St Georges v Bowring at Hadley USC
Monkmoor v Trench at Elephant and Castle
Burway v Telepost at Bowring New Green (Premier one)
Adderley v Old Shrewsbury at Donnington Wood New Green (far one)
Atcham Malthouse v Madeley Cricket Club at Hadnall
Donnington Wood v Sinclair at Edgmond
The 1st round of the KGJ Insurance has thrown up many upset possibilities and just two all Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League clashes. 2015 runners up Meole Brace play 2014 runners up Burway in a clash where both teams won away in the league last season, while Wem USC and Hanwood take on each other on Hadley USC. Out of the 9 non-Premier against Premier League clashes Donnington Wood and Hanmer is the most intriguing, as it is a re-run of last year’s Pre-playoff in the Premier League, which Hanmer won. They clashed in the 1st round of the Shropshire Cup last season which Donnington won in a battle of two teams that were short of players. Recently relegated Hadley USC will fancy a crack at Premier League Champions Sir John Bayley at Allscott, but have failed to beat them in over 20 years over 12 a side. There is a re-run of a County Cup Semi Final from a few years back when Madeley CC enjoyed a fine run before losing to Chester Road, and will look for revenge on Battlefield. Mid Shropshire Division 2 teams Trench and Charlton will relish a chance of upsetting Ifton and record winners Castlefields, while newly promoted Whitchurch League side Hadnall will look forward to a crack at Bylet. There is an all Mid-Shropshire clash between St Georges and Mid Shropshire team Sinclair, and neighbours Wrockwardine Wood will be wary of taking on the Abbey, the new name of the Bricklayers team which reached the Quarter Finals last season. Whittington, after their clash against Premier League Hadley USC last season, will look forward to another crack at a top team, this time 2014 winners Newport in an extremely tough clash for them. There are two all non-Premier League clashes involving Prince Hotel against Monkmoor and District versus Old Shrewsbury.
Holders Bowring receive a bye as well as Tanners Shropshire Champions Elephant and Castle and fellow Division one side Battlefield.
