Sir John Bayley represent Shropshire tomorrow at the Pitchcare World Club Championship hoping to give the county its first winner of the competition since it was rebranded in 2011. The Wellington based team won the Flowfit Shropshire Premier League for the first ever time last season but played in this newer competition in 2014 after winning the County Cup, but lost to M&B Cheslyn Hay. They will be hoping to qualify for finals day on Sunday 16th April like Meole Brace have done the last two seasons. They had a 14 man squad to choose from but are without Alex Jones, Jason Groom, Steve Burroughs, Norman Harvey and Will Plant tomorrow along with Scott Simpson who is playing for his first team, Willenhall Nordley, who also play tomorrow on the other green. It is still a team packed with experience though and captain Tom Roden thinks "we'll be in good form, a lot of our players have appeared in pre-season competitions and have had some good runs and have got plenty of games under their belts, along with a friendly last night at Hadley USC. We always take things one game at a time. We're taking a good side but we know we're up against the best clubs in the country. Qualifying for finals day would be an achievement." Even though players are missing now" it was impossible to please everyone, we have a really competitive squad and if we had Alex Jones available along with others and Scott Simpson not representing Nordley we would have more disappointed players. We're all behind each other though."
So the county wishes the Bayley all the best tomorrow and there will be updates on the Facebook and Twitter pages, along with videos on Snapchat and Instagram to, details of how to follow are available under the About tab and then Social Media.
Squad for tomorrow:
Spencer Clarke, Paul Evans, Tom Roden, Chris Ward, Jason Groom, Paul Reeves, Gary Cooper, Aaron Tapper, Gordon Hawkins, Robert Burroughs.
