Shropshire’s Flowfit Senior Merit Qualifier 3: Peter Farmer

The Flowfit Senior Individual Merit is this Saturday so we are looking at our famous four hopefuls who are hoping to lift the Trophy. The third qualifier we look at is Pete Farmer Name: Pete Farmer Club: Newport Premier League Record: 3 out of 5 How did he qualify: Finalist (Lost 17 to Wayne Rogers) Who did he beat to get there: Gavin Tommy 21-9 Russ Pugh 21-12 Alan Davidson 21-7 Matt Beeston 21-13 Ian Gaut 21-20 1st round opponent: Martin Gilpin (Cumbria) Preview: Pete Farmer is another player who has gone all the way before, losing in the 2005 final to the late Darren Smith. He is another big competition player, the most successful in our Merit this Millennium, but this year has cut down his bowling quite considerably due to his knees. He has played many games in the Whitchurch League though with Childs Ercall so still has had match practice. Despite this he still managed to reach the final of the Merit again this year, just dipping out. So he has what it takes to go all the way on Saturday, but faces an extremely tough 1st round game in Martin Gilpin, another player who is capable of winning the whole competition with all his experience. So if he can get through the first game, and his knees hold up, he could go far once again.
