Bricklayers face Victoria test, Prince Hotel & Highley look to avoid upsets, Division One rivals clash
There is one second round clash outstanding involving Division One sides Bricklayers from the Tanners League and Victoria from the Market Drayton League which is now being played on Charlton. Bricklayers had a good run in the County Cup to the Quarter Finals and will be looking to match that tonight. Spokesman Dan Williams says it "should be a good test tomorrow night, not heard of many of there players as they play in different leagues to ourselves but I'm sure they are a good side. Charlton is a very tricky green so it could be a toss up game but we are confident of a good performance." Victoria squeaked through last round against Greenfields on the most winners rule so will be hoping it won't be so close this time!
Tanners Division One side Prince Hotel will be looking to avoid an upset against Division Two Meole Brace Village at Greenfields No.1 green. But Prince captain Graeme Wornell says "we are missing 5 first teamers but still have a good team out as we won't take Meole Brace Village for granted as underdogs can have their day, ask Donnington Wood!" Meole Brace Village have overcome Division Two sides Church and Albert Road so far but will find the Prince a different proposition. Highley will take on a different role tomorrow as they are favourites to progress from their tie with Edgmond, a division lower than them. Highley have been the underdogs in every round having beaten three division one sides to get this far but playing Edgmond will be a different type of game on Wrockwardine Wood old green. Highley captain Geoff Wylde comments "we have three players missing due to holidays so will be mindful that we aren't at full strength and our opponents have already knocked out a team in our division (the Charlton). We don't know much about the green either so we've got a game on." Edgmond did upset Charlton last round so will be hopeful of repeating the shock, but with Highley being unbeaten in Division 2 it will be a different task altogether.
Two Division One teams clash at Victoria, Tanners side Pontesbury and Mid-Shropshire team Madeley Cricket Club. Pontesbury reached the Quarter Finals of the County Cup but captain Dan Jones admits that "we are missing a few this week but that's no excuse we will give it our best shot." However Madeley are missing two players, "Gill Chambers who is playing ladies county merit qualifying and Alan Jones who is ineligible after playing Premier League for Bylet." says spokesman Chris Lodge. "Last time we played them in the County Cup we beat them by one shot at Prees but we are not as strong as we were then. As far as I am aware none of our players have seen the green at Victoria." It could well be the case whoever adapts to the green the best will win!Shropshire Cup Quarter Finals Draw (played on Wednesday 6th July): Highley v Edgmond at Wrockwardine Wood Old Green Prince Hotel v Meole Brace Village at Greenfields No.1 Madeley CC v Pontesbury at Victoria Bricklayers/Victoria v Telepost at Allscott on Wednesday 13th July Shropshire Cup 2nd Round (played on Wednesday 6th July): Victoria v Bricklayers at Charlton
